First post for 2013. That means to meet my average I only need one more for the year! Yeah OK I’m a slack blogger. I had a few days off over the Christmas/New Year period and found myself itching to take out my pencils and draw something. So I drew a photo of a goldfinch I’d taken in my front lawn a few months ago. I used my 20+ year old Derwent Studio pencils, some Derwent Artists colours, a few Derwent Drawing colours (these are something very special), and four Faber Castell Polychromos colours. I’m fairly pleased with the results, given I’ve barely drawn a thing for maybe more than 16 years. I have a number of other birdy photos I’d like to draw, but I predict these will take a while since the work year already pounced upon me!

That looks amazing. I am very impressed by people who can draw. It’s like magic to me.
Thanks Adam. I spent a goodly number of hours on it but I must say few things are as therapeutic.
Aw cute birdy. I haven’t drawn anything for just a few years and i doubt i could draw something that good. Lovely colouring and highlights, I keep putting off trying coloured pencils.
Thanks Courtney. I’ve seen some beautiful pictures of yours, I’m sure you could do more! Coloured pencils were the first thing to try for me; I have watercolour pencils too but I thought they’d be more difficult given how long it’s been since I used them.
